- Topic: Infinitives                                                                          

WARM UP:
Warm-up Title: “Pass the ball” (3 minutes)
Ask students to make a big circle, and then ask them to pass the ball and when the music stops playing, the student who gets the dice will roll it and the student will create a one sentence using one form of using infinitives based on what they already studied in class the previous class.

PRESENTATION:
(Reading / Listening) (10 min)

-       Students work on page 80. 

-       Before students read and listen to a conversation.

-       Then, have students repeat each line.

-       After students read and listen, ask: What do they enjoy doing? What is boring or exciting for them? Between other questions using different adjectives in order to provide them more vocabulary. Is it expensive? Is he going shopping later?

-       Then, ask them to practice the conversation in pairs.

-       Monitor their work.

-       Infinitives
-       Examples of when to use an infinitive
Directions: Explain about the use of “Infinitives and when to use an infinitive in sentences.


Infinitives - Use
When do we use the present continuous?
-the verb itself preceded by “to”
-The verb itself “infinitive”
-After certain verbs
- After adjectives
- After modals

After certain verbs:
To appear.         To plan           To learn
To arrange         To refuse        To hope
To decide           To manage   To tend
To choose          To offer         To wish
After adjectives:
It was difficult to see through the fog.
She is happy to help us.

PRACTICE
ü  Controlled practice

ACTIVITY #1 (Fill in the blanks, activity; exercises A and B) (10 min)

-       Ask students to fill in the blanks in the sentences using the list of infinitives in the box.
-       Ask them to read aloud their sentences in order to check their work.



ü  Semi controlled practice

Activity (Speaking activity) (10 min)
-Pair work. Ask students to make pairs, then, students A and student B are going to take turns to ask and answer a list of questions. Then, ask students to talk about their answers.

ü  Free practice

Activity #1 (speaking activity) (15 min)
-       Ask students to stand up and discuss some questions with their classmates.



Infinitives: Discuss with your classmates the following questions.
1.   What is something you plan to do soon?
2.   What is something you started to do, but didn’t finish?
3.   Talk about a recent big decision you made. What did you decide?
4.   Is there anything specific you would like to learn?
5.   What are some of you hopes for the future?
6.   Talk about some difficult choices you have made recently.
7.   What do you want to do this coming break?
8.   What do you like to do on the weekend?
9.   What is something crazy you would like to try?
